Licensing

Gatecaster is free for personal, non-commercial use. Commercial deployment needs a separate license.

Free

The Gatecaster beta is free. There is no paid tier, no license key and no activation — a perpetual, royalty-free license to use the touch driver (pointer, taps, drag, right-click, scroll, pinch/rotate, swipe, edge gestures, palm rejection, calibration) and the complete Touch API (including input suppression) for your personal, non-commercial purposes, on any number of Macs you own or control.

Coming soon. The Deck, the on-screen keyboard, the virtual trackpad and the floating control launcher aren’t in the beta. How they’ll be offered when they ship hasn’t been decided — there’s nothing to buy, and no price to quote.

Commercial

Use of any part of Gatecaster in a commercial, business or revenue-generating context requires a separate commercial license.

Commercial use includes:

  • Kiosks, point-of-sale terminals, digital signage, exhibits, or any unattended / public-facing installation.
  • Use by or on behalf of a business, organization, institution or government.
  • Bundling, shipping, redistributing or pre-installing the software with hardware, another product or a service.
  • Using the software, or apps built on the Touch API, as part of a paid product or service you provide to others.

Personal use by an individual — including a professional using it on their own personal Mac for their own work — is not commercial use.

See the OEM & commercial page or email [email protected].

Privacy

The software runs locally. It requires no account and no network connection at all. The Touch API exposes touch and gesture data only to local processes you choose to run against it.

The one network call the Gatecaster beta makes is the update check (Sparkle), which fetches the appcast to see whether a newer build exists. There is no license activation, no analytics SDK, no ad tracking, and nothing is sold or shared.
